Perfect for the classroom or kitchen table
Trying to come up with a super-duper last-minute Valentine’s Day craft project for your students? Don’t worry -- we’ve got your back! We put together FOUR easy DIY (or let’s be honest, mostly DIY) projects for you to share with your class.
*Hint: You can repurpose each of these projects for all your favorite holidays!
Valentine’s Day Card and Envelope
Move aside, pre-printed cards. We are showing our love with handmade ones this Valentine’s Day! Out of the group of crafts, this may be the most complex, with precise ruler measurements, folding, bow tying, and writing involved. With a few extra parent volunteers in the classroom, this project can easily be adapted for younger students.
If time allows, you can encourage your students to make a few Valentines, one for each of the special people in their life.
What You Need:
- Pacon® Scrapbook Paper, Assorted Colors
- Pacon® Card Stock, Bright Colors
- Glue
- Black Marker
- Raffia
- Buttons
- Scissors
- Optional: Heart Paper Puncher
Full project instructions can be found here.
Divine Valentines
Perfect for improving scissor skills, this adorable project teaches kids how to cut equally spaced fringe and weave the strips together to form a multicolored heart. While we typically think of Valentine’s Day colors as red, pink, and white, you can encourage your students to practice thoughtfulness and choose colors that their Valentine would appreciate. For example, if they want to give their project to a grandparent who loves sky blue and yellow, they would create their heart out of those two colors. This is a great time to talk about what it means to have a kind heart.
What You Need:
- Art Street® Lightweight Construction Paper, 10 Assorted Colors
- Creativity Street® Children's Scissors, Blunt Scissors, Red
- Creativity Street® Glue Stick, Clear
- Pencil
- Patience
Full project instructions can be found here.
Glitter Heart Box
Warning: this project is only for those who REALLY want their students (and classroom) to sparkle! We recommend using this project as a reward for consistent positive behavior in the classroom.
Can you just hear it now?
“She let us bring out the glitter! Awesome!”
This glitter heart box project is a win-win-win. You win by experiencing a classroom full of happy children. The kids win because they get to play with glitter. The parents win because they will likely receive the treasured box in their home… already sealed in Mod Podge.
What You Need:
- Creativity Street® Papier Maché, Heart
- Spectra® Glitter Assortment, Assorted Colors
- White School Glue
- Pencil
- Mod Podge®
- Patience
- Extra volunteer helpers
Full project instructions can be found here.
Blooming Tissue Paper Flowers
As we try to survive cold and flu season… wait, not that kind of tissue!
It’s time to break out the KolorFast® Tissue Paper for an art and math mashup. With this blooming flower project, students will learn how to divide circles into quarters and eighths before cutting them on a curve to form a full circle. To give these flower buds a little extra pizzazz, the kids can crumple each cut circle into a tiny ball and uncrumple it to give the “petals” a little extra texture. Along the same lines, the leaves can be rolled up around a pencil to add some dimensionality. The sky’s the limit!
What You Need:
- KolorFast® Tissue Assortment, Assorted Colors
- Tru-Ray® Construction Paper, Assorted Colors
- Creativity Street® Children's Scissors, Blunt Scissors, Red
- Creativity Street® Glue Stick, Clear
- Patience
Full project instructions can be found here.
