Come celebrate Spring with us at Pacon!
Watching green shoots poke out of the ground as the snow melts is one of the most exciting parts of this time of year. Everything begins to smell fresh and alive again and colors appear so much more vivid! We embrace the feeling of the warm sunshine on our faces after a long winter. To welcome the new flowers (and April showers), we have gathered a list of some of our favorite floral craft projects. Enjoy!
Easter Lilies
Nothing quite says “Hello Spring!” like a bouquet of flowers. Better yet, you can enjoy these without taking allergy meds first! Hooray! For younger kids, this project will help them practice their scissor skills and glue application. For older students who have mastered the art of paper cutting, you can incorporate this art project into a botany lesson. You can teach the students each part of the plant (leaves, petals, stem, etc.) and their functions prior to diving into the hands-on work.

- Prang® (formerly SunWorks®) Construction Paper, Assorted Colors
- Creativity Street® Regular Stems, Kelly Green
- Creativity Street® Regular Stems, Orange
- 1/8" & 1/16" Hole Punches
- Glue
- Printer (to print pattern)
- Paper Embosser (optional)
Full project instructions can be found here.
Dandelion Painting
Dandelions may drive you absolutely bonkers when they pop up in your yard, but the sweet little puffs look beautiful on paper. Kids just love watching the colors bleed together after they brush water over the bleeding art tissue. If you have windows in your classroom, you may want to apply the rubber cement nearby for good measure.
What You Need:
- UCreate® Watercolor Paper, White
- Spectra® Deluxe Bleeding Art Tissue, 20 Assorted Colors
- Tru-Ray® Construction Paper, Black
- Paint Brush
- Black Permanent Marker
- Rubber Cement
Full project instructions can be found here.
Yarn Flower Bouquet
If your class gets really excited about this project, you can have them make hundreds of yarn flowers and string them together into a garland to hang from the ceiling in the classroom. If that’s a bit over the top for your style, you can always encourage your students to make a yarn flower bouquet for someone they care about -- perfect for Mother’s Day!
What You Need:
- Trait-tex® 3-Ply School Roving Yarn, Bright Colors
- Scissors
- Floral Tape
- Floral Wire
- Ribbon
Full project instructions can be found here.
3D Cactus
Oh yes, even the prickly cactus gets a chance in the spotlight on the floral projects blog! Just because its “stem” is uninviting doesn’t mean its blooms aren’t absolutely gorgeous. The super sturdy Riverside 3D™ construction paper is perfect for this project, as it allows you to create upright structures and models without internal support beams (popsicle sticks!).
What You Need:
- Pacon® Construction Paper, Assorted Colors
- Black Marker
- White School Glue
Full project instructions can be found here.
Flower Card
While we have a handy dandy template for you and your students to use in cutting out flower parts, we encourage you to use your full creativity. If you want long, skinny petals or short and round petals, go for it! Just make sure you stay within the general size range so the flowers fit on the card. This project is perfect for just about any special occasion. National Garden Week, we’re talking about you.
What You Need:
- Pacon® Card Stock, White
- Creativity Street® Craft Paper Assortment, Assorted Colors
- Creativity Street® Glue Stick, Clear
- Ruler
- Regular Scissors & Decorative-Edge Scissors
- Printer (to print out pattern)
Full project instructions can be found here.
Mosaic Flower Gift Bag
We have a gift bag project to go along with that fancy card you just made… with more bleeding art tissue! (We love this stuff)! This time, we’re getting the chenille stems involved. If you don’t have eye droppers in your classroom, you can always have your students wet the end of a tiny paintbrush and flick the bristles to splatter water onto the bleeding art tissue circles. Involve your students in this brainstorming process and see what other ways they could add water (lightly). Sponge? Cotton swab? Straw?
What You Need:
- Spectra® Deluxe Bleeding Art Tissue, 25 Assorted Colors
- Creativity Street® Kraft Bags, White
- Prang® (Formerly Art Street®) Lightweight Construction Paper, 6 Assorted Colors
- Creativity Street® Regular Stems, Dark Green
- Small Container of Water
- Eye Dropper (optional)
- Pencil
- Glue
- Scissors
Full project instructions can be found here.
Still Life Flower Collages
With this project, you can teach your students about perspective and dimension. Grab a bouquet of vibrant flowers (perhaps the yarn ones you made in the project above), put them in a vase and have your students recreate the “image” from their point of view with Tru-Ray® construction paper. They can add dimension to their collage by using multiple shades of the same color, folding, and/or cutting fringe into the paper. For anyone who is sick of seeing flowers, you can give them the option to recreate anything they see in the classroom.
What You Need:
- Tru-Ray® Construction Paper, Assorted Colors
- Hole Punch
- Scissors
- Glue
- Trait-tex® Yarn (optional)
- Cotton (optional)
Full project instructions can be found here.
Blooming Tissue Paper Flowers
This project is the equivalent of adding veggies to a fruit smoothie. You’re adding math to a fun art project! In this activity, your students will see and understand how to work with fractions as they relate to perfect circles. They will fold the tissue circles into halves, quarters, and even eighths! For a healthy dose of science trivia, you can share examples of how symmetry occurs often in nature.
What You Need:
- KolorFast® Tissue Assortment, Assorted Colors
- Tru-Ray® Construction Paper, Assorted Colors
- Creativity Street® Glue Stick, Clear
- Scissors
Full project instructions can be found here.
